Carolina TEA led the design of a bridge replacement project. Backwater from the Catawba River floods the subject project at frequentintervals – so improving the roadway approaches to above the design year event has become critical to the project. The bridge replacement will elevate the roadway approximately 15 ft across the floodway. The existing 230 ft 5-span bridge will be replaced with a 400 ft 4-span structure.

An at-grade CSX Railroad crossing may be improved as part of the project. Ingress and egress to existing homes and businesses, including an industrial recycling center, will be maintained throughout construction. The project was developed as an off-alignment bridge replacement, allowing the project to be completed with only a 3-month roadway closure.

Project construction cost is estimated to be $15 million.
