Hampton Avenue Pedestrian Bridge
Project Description:
Carolina TEA, as a subconsultant to TranSystems, performed as a structural engineer, reviewing the structure plans, specifications, bid quantities, utility relocation plans, and repair plans for the construction of a prefabricated bridge over a Norfolk Southern Railroad (NSRR) yard in Greenville, SC. Plans were developed to be in accordance with SCDOT plans and procedures.
Derek performed initial site visits, met with the County to prepare scope documents, reviewed final bridge plans, and met with SCDOT Structures and Geotechnical Units to discuss the particular issues with this site – primarily the reuse of 100-year-old abutments to hold the proposed pedestrian truss.
The 162 ft single-span pedestrian truss spanned 9 active tracks in the NSRR yard, west of downtown Greenville, SC.
